“A Thousand Lights” is a gorgeous debut and can definitely be qualified as an overall success; however there are a few gems that stand out. My personal favorites are “Your Wake” – a catchy, pleasant opening - , “Save My City” – the debut single that exemplifies what this band is all about – , and “I Hope You Dance” – a painfully beautiful song with lines such as “…hope you cut yourself deeper than I could have done…”.
While my three favorite songs all come from the beginning of the album, the rest of “A Thousand Lights” is strong as well. For, on each and every song, Symbols of the West lead you into their world of raw emotion, gritty, edgy lyrics, and melodic sounds with a helping hand and a pair of Mona Lisa smiles.
This is a fantastic debut, and the pair is likely to get even better. Symbols of the West are a band to keep on your radar.
“A Thousand Lights” drops tomorrow, February 26, on Rock Shock It! Records
